Submissions open for Queensland Screenwriting Award with $5,000 cash prize

Gold Coast Film Festival has for the first time opened submissions for feature film scripts from Queensland-based writers, with a $5,000 award thanks to The Heaton Group.

As the city’s flagship film event, the Gold Coast Film Festival promotes the Gold Coast as a major Australian filmmaking destination, helps develop the filmmakers and crew working in the local industry and is committed to supporting the continued economic benefit and job creation by the screen industry in the region.

In 2017 and 2018, the Gold Coast Film Festival presented ‘Script To Screen,’ a live script read of a feature film with a connection to the Gold Coast. This year, the festival will expand upon the live script read with the opportunity for Queensland-based writers to submit their feature length scripts for consideration.

Three finalists will be selected by the jury and the overall winner will be awarded a $5000 cash prize at a gala industry dinner at the Gold Coast Film Festival 2019.

The winning script will take part in a live script read on Sunday 14 April at HOTA, Home of the Arts.

Script submissions are open to feature films of a recommended 80 to 120 pages from Queensland-based writers. Entrants are invited to submit their full script alongside a synopsis paragraph.

The jury includes Jo Dillon, Executive Vice President – Content at Screen Queensland, Jonathan Page, founder of Bonsai Pictures,  Benjamin Gilmour, writer/director of AACTA-Award winning JIRGA and renowned screen industry journalist Sandy George.

Submissions are open now through Film Freeway and close Saturday 9 February. For details and to enter visit https://filmfreeway.com/GoldCoastFilmFestivalQueensland

The Gold Coast Film Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland. The Gold Coast Film Festival is supported by the City of Gold Coast.
