Waiting: The Van Duren Story

Waiting: The Van Duren Story

Documentary | Australia | Australian Premiere

Born out of the ashes of Big Star, arguably the greatest cult band of all time, Memphis local Van Duren formed a band and became a regular presence on the 70s Memphis bar circuit. Quickly he got the attention of the Rolling Stones’ manager, recorded an amazing album, and was tipped to be the next Paul McCartney but instead he faded into obscurity.

Forty years later, two friends from Australia (a band manager and musician), chance upon the mysterious musician’s lost album. They fall hopelessly in love with the music and set out to discover why Van Duren isn’t a household name. Self taught film makers, their journey takes them across the world and sees them cross paths with with rockstars, Scientologists, con men and a host of talented musicians some who made it… and others that didn’t.

Join Van Duren and the directors for a Q and A after the film.
