Opening Night: I Am Woman

Opening Night | Australia | Drama/Biopic

Celebrate Opening Night of the 2020 Gold Coast Film Festival with red carpet arrivals and a gala screening of I Am Woman.

I Am Woman is a biographical drama about the life of Australian singer Helen Reddy. The first feature film from Unjoo Moon, with a screenplay by Emma Jensen, it stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey in a luminous performance as Reddy.

1966. Helen Reddy arrives in New York with her young daughter to pursue and further her singing career, but quickly discovers recording contracts are difficult to secure. Reddy soon befriends rock journalist Lillian Roxon and meets talent manager Jeff Wade, who becomes her husband and agent. Helen Reddy’s rise on the popular music scene takes flight propelled by ambition, determination and talent, at the same time the women’s liberation movement is gaining momentum. Helen Reddy’s iconic song “I Am Woman” becomes the anthem for the women’s movement in the 1970s and for generations of women since.

Special guests in attendance on Opening Night, screenwriter Emma Jensen and producer Rosemary Blight.
