Gold Coast Film Festival invites Australians to escape to a world of film this April

Gold Coast Film Festival (GCFF) is set to return in 2021 with a jam-packed program of more than 100 films, panels, parties, and pop-up events across the Gold Coast and online from April 14–25.

The 12-day film festival will feature uniquely Gold Coast events including rooftop cinema, poolside flicks at QT Gold Coast, and outdoor movies in a brewery, alongside premiere film events, world cinema, a gala awards ceremony, and the festival’s first ever online program.

The 2020 Gold Coast Film Festival was one of the first major events in Australia to be cancelled last March due to COVID-19, with the pandemic also responsible for the shutdown of film and television productions across the country.

“Gold Coast Film Festival and the film industry certainly felt the full force of the shutdown this past year, but the screen industry has pushed through and 2021 is proving to be an exciting year for film fans and filmmakers,” says Gold Coast Film Festival Director, Aimée Lindorff.

“Rain, hail, shine, or pandemic, there will be a festival in 2021 with all events and screenings shaped to stringent COVID safety guidelines, providing cinema-goers a safe environment,” says Ms Lindorff.

“We’re thrilled to be in a position to support the thriving local screen industry while also redefining what it means to go to the cinema, exploring new ways of delivering film experiences for local and visiting audiences.

“It’s a great excuse for movie lovers to book a trip to the Gold Coast and escape to a world of film this April, whether it’s in a cinema, on a rooftop, the red carpet at one of our premieres or from the comfort of their couch.”

Alongside a full program of films, to be announced in March, fan-favourite special events are once again on the line-up, including the Women in Film Lunch, Clueless on the Rooftop, and a three-day line-up of films starring Aussie favourites at Burleigh Brewing.

Industry practitioners can also expect a program of industry panels and workshops designed to connect film professionals and emerging filmmakers from across Australia, including the Pitch In Paradise program – GCFF’s two-day industry market – and the Screen Industry Gala Awards at Movie World.

With so much to see and do, festivalgoers who wish to book a trip for the Gold Coast Film Festival can get 20% off the best available room rate at the festival’s hotel partner, QT Gold Coast, by using the code ‘GCFF21’.

The Gold Coast Film Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland and Tourism and Events Queensland and features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar. The Gold Coast Film Festival is supported by the City of Gold Coast and Major Events Gold Coast.

Tickets for special events go on sale February 15th, full program announced March 10.
