If you lived on the Gold Coast in the early ‘80s you probably knew of Margaret Dupre, a colourful character and prolific postcard model.
A new film in development, STRIPPED tells the true story of Margaret, a single British mother who became a local icon.
When Margaret’s children were taken from her as part of the Australian Government’s Fairbridge scheme to “Keep Australia White”, she resorted to stripping, stealing her children back and living on the run while a fixated government worker hunted her down.
The script is written by Margaret’s daughter, India Dupre, based on her childhood and is set to be filmed in late 2017.
India has made a short film version of the film that won support from The Kevin Spacey Foundation. The film won an Academy Award qualifying film festival and is currently making the rounds of film festivals worldwide.
“Based on a true story, STRIPPED bravely reveals the ugly reality of a little-known time in Australian history, and balances it with the beauty of a family, powered by resilience and love. Our audiences walked away, inspired to follow the heroine’s lead. To ‘Rise Up!’” Kerrie Long, Festival Producer, Edmonton International Film Festival Foundation.
This live script read with actors will be directed by India Dupre.
